Filled with opportunity for collaboration, group bow-drill is an ancient method of using natural materials to achieve a burning ember. Although there is challenge, it is fully achievable by a team working together - each role is an important part of the puzzle but it will be up to the group to discuss and strategise.

There are many ways to build a shelter from natural materials but the principles are generally the same - strong frame, secure ribs, springy sinew layer and a dense outer skin. When building a shelter for a whole group, creativity and idea sharing plays more of a role, encouraging intriguing ways to problem solve.

Cooking as a community provides a feeling of shared responsibility for something tangible, immediate and hopefully delicious. The group will be taught cooking techniques applicable to open fires in addition to having a moment to recharge, refuel and share past experiences.

Over the day, safe and effective usage will be taught for a variety tools that the participants will need to use to achieve elements in all of the different areas of learning. Edged tools such as knives, saws and froes will be used and will be freely accessible for many tasks.

Using a variety of natural fibres such as nettle, lime-bast and horseradish, participants will work together in small groups to prepare and make different types of rope and cordage that is both practical and elegant. A fantastic skill which can be used for a multitude of applications
