Who We Are

A man with a beard wearing a tan wide-brimmed hat and a red jacket, sitting next to a young child with curly blonde hair in a blue patterned jacket, both seated inside a train or similar vehicle, with dark gray cushioned seats and wooden frames behind them.

“For the decade I have been teaching outdoor skills, the enjoyment of the sharing process and the chance to meet so many incredible people along the way is something I feel so grateful for. The outdoors provides such opportunity for state of flow, always busy but somehow always calm. Practising these skills grows confidence, self-reliance and gives an insight into what life was like for so many, for so long.”

David Pegg
Founder & Lead Instructor

Born and raised here in rural Cumbria, David has always felt a deep and enduring connection to wild, natural places. Sharing this appreciation has been an integral part of his practice over the years as a primary school teacher and outdoors practitioner.

For David, founding Tarn & Wood was an opportunity to pass on the fascination, enthusiasm and ancestral connection derived from practising bushcraft and wilderness living skills.

In addition to having QTS (qualified teacher status) and a BSc, David is also a heavily experienced and qualified (BCC) in bushcraft instruction, paediatric first aid, fire awareness, events and visits co-ordination and has a level 3 in learning beyond the classroom. Tarn and Wood is also fully insured with PLI.
